Online Consultation on the CFS Global Strategic Framework

The reformed CFS, which brings together a wide range of stakeholders needs a framework to enable it to be forward looking and visualize its future responsibilities and actions, from different perspectives. Following CFS's refom, the Global Strategic Framework (GSF) should serve to harmonize, facilitate and organize the CFS in its newly identified roles. Its objectives are:

- to improve coordination and synergy among all stakeholders
- to strengthen coherence and convergence among policies and programs
- to bring together the world wide knowledge (HLPE) and field experience
(Joint Secretariat)
- to catalyze country level capacity building
- to improve communication and information exchange
- to create an atmosphere of trust and shared responsibility.

The GSF will draw on existing frameworks focused on both food security and nutrition, and securing buy-in across the stakeholder spectrum.

The UNSCN is a member of the CFS Global Strategic Framework (GFS) working group to help ensure that GFS will make conceptual and programmatic bridges between food security and nutrition and evolve in a complementary and mutually reinforcing manner.

The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) had launched an online consultation on the Global Strategic Framework for Food Security and Nutrition through the Global Forum on Food Security and Nutrition. The CFS particularly welcomed collective contributions from organisations and networks.

The UNSCN, in close collaboration with the CFS and the FSN Forum launched a complementary nutrition-focused discussion on the GSF. It was an opportunity for the nutrition community to participate in this global policy debate and make sure nutrition challenges and solutions are well considered and included in the GSF. Particularly important to the UNSCN is to make sure that specific nutrition interventions as well as nutrition-sensitive development actions are considered.
