44th Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS)
9-13 October 2017, FAO, Rome, Italy
The plenary discussions for this year’s CFS will have nutrition at the center stage, including with one day completely devoted to nutrition on Tuesday 10 October. On Nutrition Day, nutrition-related discussions in plenary will be Good Practice and Lesson Sharing for Improved Nutrition (IIIc), CFS Advancing Nutrition including the Decade of Action on Nutrition (IIId), and Update on ICN2 Reporting (IIIb). Other sessions throughout the week will explore issues of forestry, gender, urbanization and emerging issues through a food security and nutrition lens. For more information, including the timetables, we welcome you to refer to the CFS website.
UNSCN members will be active in several side events throughout the week to address nutrition from their areas of expertise.
Beyond the plenary walls, several nutrition-related side events will be held during the CFS, including almost 30 with a specific focus on nutrition. These include:
- How can agricultural investments promote quality, safe and nutritious foods for healthy diets? on Wednesday 11 October. This event organized by World Bank, IFAD, WHO and FAO will make the case for a shift in investments to more sustainable food systems.
- Improving child nutrition: strategies for obesity prevention and control on Thursday 12 October. The conversation at this event will aim at country experiences and challenges regarding regulatory and fiscal policies and nutrition education for tackling child overweight and obesity.
- Linking agriculture and health to shape food environments for healthy diets on Friday 13 October. This UNSCN event, held in collaboration with Ecuador, will link Geneva (health) with Rome (agriculture) and present examples of front of package labelling to improve nutrition.
