From healthy waters to healthy people

Rome, 5 July 2018, FAO Headquarters

Sheikh Zayed Centre, 09.30–14.30

The meeting is the first official meeting of the informal Global Action Network on Sustainable Food from the Oceans and Inland Waters for Food Security and Nutrition. This Action Network has been initiated by Norway under the umbrella of the United Nations (UN) Decade of Action on Nutrition (2016-2025), and is a direct follow-up to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Network will provide a platform for countries to highlight the role food from the oceans and inland waters can play in ensuring food security and nutrition, and to mobilise political support, share knowledge and good practices, discuss successes and challenges, and work to increase the production and consumption of sustainable, safe and nutritious aquatic food, with the ultimate objective of improving food systems, diets and nutrition for all. The Concept document below will form a basis for the discussions.

This first meeting will include a high-level session and a thematic session with short presentations on actions and on the elements of food security that can be taken to increase the nutritional impacts of food from the oceans and inland waters.

Norway is inviting representatives from ministries and other governmental institutions working with fisheries and aquaculture and/or nutrition and health to join the Action Network. All stakeholders are welcome to attend this first meeting.

To confirm your attendance, kindly register here no later than 25 June 2018. The event will be livestreamed here.

Draft Programme available here.
