Civil Society “Manifesto” on Decade of Action on Nutrition

In February 2017, the platform of public interest civil society organizations and social movements that have actively engaged in the preparatory process for the Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2) and continue to advance its follow-up, conveyed their collective position about the Nutrition Decade in the Civil Society “Manifesto” on Decade of Action on Nutrition.

The Manifesto lays out the group’s understanding of the challenges and major causes of malnutrition in all its forms. Based on this common understanding, they propose four central pillars around which action under the Decade of Action on Nutrition should evolve.

  • Pillar 1: Human rights as framework for the Decade
  • Pillar 2: Management of malnutrition throughout the life-cycle
  • Pillar 3: Sovereign local food systems based on biodiversity
  • Pillar 4: Democratic governance and global regulatory framework

The Civil Society “Manifesto” on Decade of Action on Nutrition also presents the key expectations for the Nutrition Decade, as well as their involvement and contribution to the Decade by launching a People’s Decade of Action on Nutrition based on Civil Society’ Vision Statement and facilitate people’s engagement in the UN Decade in accordance to the Manifesto.

We encourage you to read the advanced draft of the full Manifesto, which is available in English and Spanish.
