Scurvy and its prevention and control in major emergencies

Although this document is intended primarily as a backdrop for interventions involving refugees, it is also suitable as a guide for ensuring adequate vitamin C intake in most emergency settings. It reviews the strategies and past experiences of the prevention of scurvy in refugee situations, and analyses factors influencing their success or failure. It reviews the constraints to the adoption of the recommendations. Innovative ways of improving vitamin C intakes are recommended and interventions are proposed for field-testing.
